Adoption UK provides support and gives a voice to adoptive families. They offer the benefit of peer support, using a deeper level of understanding from experienced adoptive parents, enabling adopters and prospective adopters to benefit from those further along the path of adoption.
Unfortunately many have experienced neglect and/or abuse in those families. Early trauma at a crucial time in their lives can lead to emotional, behavioural, educational and development difficulties. This in turn may affect their ability to form secure relationships in the future.
Adoption UK are uniquely placed to raise awareness and understanding of the complexities of adoption by combining the knowledge and expertise from leading authorities in the field with the real-life experiences of adoptive parents. They take the latest research and findings in child development and neuroscience and translate them into practical strategies for parents.
They offer a non-judgemental and safe environment in which to share the challenges and rewards of adoptive parenting. As a large community of adoptive parents Adoption UK also has a strong voice and thus power to influence and challenge current prevailing beliefs amongst governments and the public.
To help continue the good work that Adoption UK do, they have produced a fantastic fundraiser – a Celebrity Cook Book. Toby Anstis, Oona King and Carrie Grant are just three of the eight celebrity contributors to Adoption UK’s first charity cook book. Let’s Cook Together features 30 delicious family recipes donated by celebrity adopters and adoptees, members of Adoption UK and Adoption UK staff.
Celebrity chefs and food critics also contributed their favourite dishes with recipes in the book including Matthew Fort’s Lemon Tart and Michael Caines’ Chocolate Chip Cookies. TV presenters, vocal coaches and adoptive parents Carrie and David Grant who contributed their favourite cake recipe to the book said:
“This is a great book full of family favourites including our delicious rainbow cake. We know from our own family that adoption gives a child a wonderful opportunity and it is vital that families offering up their homes to children from the care system are given the best support possible. Adoption UK is a brilliant charity that supports adoptive families throughout the adoption process, please do buy a copy of this book to support their work.”
Adoption UK knows from its members that for many adoptive families food and eating can be challenging. The varied collection of recipes in Let’s Cook Together has been chosen to appeal to and inspire many different families.
Proceeds from the sale of the book will support Adoption UK’s work, helping families build brighter futures for children through the highest level of support, education, training and campaigning.
